The Better Bee House
You will not find a better Native Bee house anywhere!
Our Native Bee houses are the result of extensive research into exactly what the Orchard Mason Bee needs to be happy, healthy and highly productive in your orchard or garden - exceeding USDA specifications.
It took two years of building and testing before we created our Better Bee House for wood-dwelling solitary bees. We think you'll agree that it's a perfect blend of healthy habitat, ease of use, and beautiful aesthetics.
What's So Special?
There are lots of native bee houses available online, but none of them incorporate everything Orchard Mason Bees need in such a beautiful package. Many are made of plastic straws or PVC housing, which provide a perfect environment for mold, mildew and parasites, but not for native bees in the humid weather east of the Rocky Mountains; others have drilled holes in wood that are too shallow, too close together, and too hard to clean; most do not provide for both inner nesting straws and outer protector tubes, which are a necessity for both cleanliness and ease of use; and I've never seen a more attractive bee house design than ours, so you'll be proud to hang them in your yard.
Every feature of the Better Bee House is specially designed to promote lots of healthy bees and to make your beekeeping experience easy, including:
- a design that replicates the bee’s ideal nesting site - a dark hole in a tree
- easy-to-replace custom nesting straws that help keep the holes mold and parasite free
- a 5/16" hole diameter that produces large, healthy bees
- a 6" hole depth that allows for the maximum number of females
- heavy cardboard protector tubes that hold the nesting straws, and keep bees safe from parasitic wasps and other intruders
- a hollow nest box to facilitate access and air circulation, and provide storage
- low maintenance and sustainable pine and oak construction
- 2" roof overhang to help keep out wind and rain
- pre-drilled hanging hole for quick, easy mounting
- beautiful and long-lasting copper or galvanized steel roof coverings.
